Unique to this Inauguration is the first ever “Neighborhood Ball.” In a January 5, 2009 post on the Inaugural Blog, Barack Obama noted, “This is an inauguration for all Americans. I wanted to make sure that we had an event that would be open to our new neighborhood here in Washington, D.C., and also the neighborhoods across the country.” The Presidential Inaugural Committee invites everyone to attend or host a party in their own neighborhood. Additionally, everyone in the United States is invited to tune into ABC at 8 p.m. EST to watch the Neighborhood Ball Party live. Celebrities scheduled to perform include Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Faith Hill, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Shakira, and Stevie Wonder.
