President-elect Barack Obama will be sworn into office at noon on January 20, 2009. Those who can’t get tickets to Inauguration Day events can still commemorate the day with official merchandise authorized by the Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC). Inaugural Collectibles, run by Financial Innovations, Inc., is the official provider of 2009 Inaugural memorabilia. The merchandise is posted on the PIC website for purchase online. 2009 Presidential Inauguration Merchandise: Commemorative Barack Obama ItemsMost official Inauguration merchandise displays a photo or likeness of Barack Obama or the official Inaugural seal. Items are available in these nine overlapping categories on the PIC website:
Accessories include messenger bags, woven blankets, picture frames, coasters, key rings, leather portfolios, paperweights, pens, note cubes, and wristbands. Buttons are very economical memorabilia at $2 each. Vice President-elect Joe Biden and incoming First Lady Michelle Obama appear alone on two buttons. Unique stickers are of the Inaugural flag and a photo of Obama with his signature and the Inaugural seal. Collectibles include a bronze medallion, a cup & saucer set, and a china plate. All of these are elegant, albeit expensive, options. The china and glassware category includes coffee mugs, wine glasses, steins, champagne flutes, and travel mugs. Kids are well represented with a selection of youth size shirts, piggy banks, pencils, rulers, and wooden trains. Those interested in jewelry can buy lapel pins, sterling silver charms, and cuff links. Tote bags and scarves are listed in the Runway to Change category. Most Popular, Unique 2009 Presidential Inauguration Merchandise: Obama T-Shirts, Hats, ArtworkAs evidenced by all the Americans who already sport Obama shirts and hats, clothing will undoubtedly be a popular category due to its practicality and affordability. The clothing category contains Obama t-shirts, hats, basketball jerseys, baby onesies, and fleece jackets for purchase. In addition to election night framed artwork, a very unique piece of memorabilia is a panoramic photo of Obama taking oath. Of course, this won’t be ready until after the fact because the photo will be taken on Inauguration Day, January 20, 2009. The site indicates that the panoramic photo will ship on February 15, 2009. Want To See More of the Future President? Where to Get Photos of Barack ObamaA nice selection of Barack Obama photos is available on the future president’s official campaign website. Choose from Barack Obama photos (giving speeches, meeting supporters, smiling, etc), Michelle Obama images, campaign trail or Obama family pictures. Supporters can share these images with friends by clicking “Share This” below a particular photo. It appears as though the Obama Store section of the President-elect’s campaign website offers even more memorabilia than the PIC website; some of the items are the same, but there are more products in total. However, the campaign website is holding a 50% off sale, which indicates that the PIC website may be the only official source of Obama paraphernalia in the near future.
